What is our Big Green Plan?

Find out why we created our Big Green Plan and how it is helping us become a business that gives more than it takes.

What is our Big Green Plan?

Our Big Green Plan was created in 2019 with one simple aim in mind: to become a business that gives more than it takes. It outlines a set of ambitious targets to reduce our environmental impact.

Our Big Green Plan is based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and ensures we are committed to making a better world for our people and the planet. These act as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives of people around the world.

Our Big Green Plan impacts every stage of production at Little Freddie, ensuring we keep sustainability at the forefront of every decision we make from farm to plate.

We split our Big Green Plan into 3 focus areas: Planet, Product and People.

Planet

We rely on our planet’s natural resources to produce our delicious recipes, generating waste and greenhouse gas emissions in the process. With this in mind, we always try to reduce our impact where possible. Our priorities within our Planet pillar include cutting our carbon emissions, reducing food waste, using sustainable packaging and sending zero pouches to landfill.

Product

We believe in food as nature intended, with fewer pesticides, additives and preservatives and no GM ingredients, because this is better for both people and the planet. This is why we only use high quality, certified organic ingredients in our recipes that have been responsibly grown and produced by farmers who we know and trust. Our sourcing standards are reviewed each year to ensure we are always championing organic farming, animal welfare and responsible sourcing.

People

We don’t believe planning for the future of the planet should only focus on our environmental impact. It’s also about supporting people: from our workplace, across our supply chain and in the communities where we operate. We believe everyone should be treated fairly, equally and respectfully.

Why should we care?

Because here at Little Freddie, we believe our children deserve better, From the quality of their food to the future of their planet, everything we do, we do to give them the best in life.

Not only do we make baby and toddler food that genuinely tastes homemade, but we go above and beyond to ensure our recipes are nutritious and sourced responsibly. The sad truth is that the effects of climate change will be disproportionately felt by future generations, so we recognise that we have a role to play in managing our environmental impacts responsibly.

What have we achieved so far?

12 things we are doing to become a company that gives more than it takes:

Planet

Product

People

Carbon Negative: In the UK we pledge to double offset those emissions we cannot further reduce.

Promoting animal welfare: By 2023 we will publish our animal welfare policy for our dairy, beef, and chicken products.

UK Living Wage Employer: We are an accredited Living Wage Employer.

Low carbon transport: Cut transport emissions by 10% year on year.

Climate labelling: We are the first and only baby food brand in the world to publish our climate footprint on our packaging.

Supporting communities: 100% surplus stock is donated to charity partners.

Zero food waste: We send zero food waste to landfill.

Circular waste: By 2025, 100% of our plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable.

Protecting our people: Annually report on our progress to protect workers and reduce risk of modern slavery.

Reducing waste: Encourage more parents to make use of our recycling scheme. By 2023, we aim to have saved over 1m pouches from landfill.

Sustainable materials: By 2025, we will have 30% recycled content across all plastic packaging.

Investing in our supply chain: Provide support to our suppliers to improve the livelihoods of our workers.

What’s next?

As we continue to grow as a company, we are thrilled to use our scale for good.

By the end of the year we are excited to…

  • Launch the UK’s first ever fully recyclable pouch that can be disposed of through your normal household recycling
  • Launch our partnership with renowned charity Magic Breakfast who make sure no child goes to school hungry. As of July, for every one of our Blueberry & Banana Greek Style Yoghurt multipacks sold, we will donate the cost of one nutritious breakfast to a child in need
  • Start rolling out climate footprint labelling across our entire range to help parents make more informed decisions
  • Develop future recipes with sustainability at the forefront

…and much more.
